28th Annual Arizona State Sister Cities Conference
Hosted by Sierra Vista, Arizona
October 6-8, 2017
Sierra Vista is 200 miles and 3 hours from Phoenix. It is a natural wonderland in Southern Arizona. It is situated close to the Southern Border and is home to such attractions as Karchner Caverns, Ramsey Canyon National Conservancy, Parks, and Hiking. And of course there is Fort Huachuca, Tombstone, Bisbee, and a crossing into Old Mexico a few miles away. Within 45 minutes you can find yourself in the Wine country of Southern Arizona. And of course many attractions are on the way in Tucson, like San Xavier mission, U of A, and Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. So make it a long weekend and enjoy a part of Arizona that many have not experienced.
The State Conference this year will start Friday evening, October 6, where we will meet Sierra Vista dignitaries and members of their Sister City Program. Sierra Vista has a very active Sister City program with Radebuhl, Germany and Canonea, Mexico, which is within an hour drive. They have a very strong Student Exchange program. We will meet dignitaries from Sister City, Canonea, some of whom will be there to greet us. Canonea is a large mining town rich with Copper and it is in the process of becoming a significant wine region.
The main location for meetings will be at the Windemere Hotel in central Sierra Vista. Friday evening will be casual and “meet and greet”. Saturday meetings will go to about 2:00pm and will include a lot of Sister City sharing and several training sessions. Reservation information and more information on the agenda will be forthcoming.
