Phoenix Sister Cities activities with their sister cities

Chengdu, China – U.S. sister cities Youth Debate Challenge
- Since 2016, Phoenix’s sister city Chengdu, China has invited Phoenix high school debate teams to participate in their International Youth Debate Challenge. Phoenix Sister Cities reaches out to high school debate coaches around the Valley, inviting their debate team (2 debaters and 1 coach) to participate in this international speech and debate competition. Due to COVID-19, the 2021 youth debate challenge was hosted virtually.
Chengdu, China International Sister Cities Youth Music Festival
- Each year, sister city Chengdu, China invites Phoenix ensembles to perform in their international sister cities youth music festival. The Phoenix Sister Cities Chengdu Committee helps identify an ensemble(s) to participate in the festival. Due to COVID-19, the 2021 youth music festival will be presented virtually, and Phoenix Sister Cities staff will invite sister city Hermosillo and the Hermosillo Children’s Choir to participate for a second year. The festival will focus on international music exchanges and cooperation in the post-pandemic era.
Smart Cities Survey and App
- Phoenix Sister Cities has asked each sister city to provide information on their Smart Cities initiatives. Compiled data will be presented in an app, making it accessible to public entities and businesses.
